What a session with Wildaya looks like
A pre-wedding photoshoot is the session most couples do between getting engaged and the wedding itself, usually three to twelve months out. The photos end up on invitations, printed for the reception, or kept as the record of what it felt like before the wedding day took over everything else.
I don't hand you a shot list and walk you through poses at location after location. The photo couples end up loving most is rarely the one where you were told exactly where to put your hands. It's the one from five seconds after, when you both forgot the camera was there.
I already know where the light will fall at each location before you arrive, and I get there before you do. Once we start, I'm reading the moment more than directing it. The goal is a gallery that still feels like you in ten years, not a catalogue of whatever pose was popular the year you got married.
If full wedding-day coverage is part of your plan too, see how I approach that on the Bali wedding photographer page. Many couples book both across the same trip.
Why couples book their Bali pre-wedding photographer with us
One photographer, not a roster
With a large studio, you often don't find out who's shooting until the morning of. With Wildaya, you're booking me specifically, and I shoot every session myself. Raditya, who joined in 2023, supports as a second shooter on select bookings, but there's no unnamed photographer showing up in my place.
Ten years of knowing where to stand
Ten years in, I know Uluwatu's cliffs, Nusa Dua's black sand, and Sidemen's bamboo bridges the way you know a neighbourhood, including what time the tour buses arrive and which hour the light actually turns gold.
Delivery you can plan around
Standard galleries are delivered within 3 business days. If you're flying out sooner, 24-hour express editing is available as an add-on, included by default on our longer packages.
Where we shoot your Bali pre-wedding photoshoot
Bali packs an unreasonable amount of scenery into a small island. I plan locations around your package length, the light at your shooting time, and how you two want to look back on these photos, not whatever's trending that season.
- The rice terraces of Tabanan and Jatiluwih, best in the first hour after sunrise
- The cliffs of Uluwatu and Nusa Penida, for couples who want scale and drama
- The valleys and bamboo bridges of Sidemen, quiet and rarely crowded
- The temples near Ubud, for a more traditional, grounded feel
- The beach stretches of Canggu, Seminyak, and Nusa Dua, especially at golden hour
- The Gili Islands and Lombok, when a session calls for something further afield
For the Bahagia and Istimewa packages, locations are grouped by region, everything within Canggu, or everything within Ubud, to keep travel short. Combining spots on opposite sides of the island is possible, but it needs to be planned into your timeline in advance.
What it sounds like afterward
"Andi met us before sunrise and never once made it feel like a shoot. My husband hates being photographed and even he relaxed within ten minutes. The light that morning was worth the early alarm."
Hannah, Sydney
"We did two locations and I was terrified of looking stiff. By the second one I'd completely forgotten the camera was there. Gallery landed three days later, exactly as promised."
Ananya, Bangalore
"It started raining halfway through at Tegalalang and I assumed we'd have to stop. Andi just moved us under the treeline and kept going, some of those shots ended up being the ones we printed."
Lukas, Warsaw
Real clients, real bookings, unedited words.
Who's behind the camera
I'm Andi Regen. I've shot professionally in Bali since 2015. Over 800 sessions in, weddings, engagements, pre-wedding photoshoots, elopements, proposals, and portrait work, across the cliffs of Uluwatu and Nusa Penida, the rice terraces of Jatiluwih, and the valleys of Sidemen. I'm fluent in English and Indonesian, so the couples I work with come from Bali and well beyond it.
I shoot on a Fujifilm X-H2 with fast prime lenses, plus a drone for aerial work when a location calls for it, Nusa Penida especially. I keep the kit small on purpose, so I can move fast the moment something real happens.
Beyond my own shoots, I've judged photography competitions, taught workshops for photographers who want to shoot weddings this way, and collaborated with names like Rock My Wedding. Raditya joined the team in 2023, coming from visual arts and creative media, and works alongside me as second shooter and creative support on select bookings. Around us is a small circle of collaborators I trust for every session: makeup artist Cherish and her team, stylist Natasya, and gowns from Michelle Ann Bridal.
Planning your session
When to book it
Most couples do their pre-wedding photoshoot three to twelve months before the wedding, but I've shot them the day before the ceremony and I've shot them a year out with nothing else booked yet. If you're combining it with your wedding trip, mention it when you enquire so I can plan a route and a look that feels consistent across both.
Sunrise or sunset
Sunrise gives you softer light and empty locations, worth the early alarm at places like Uluwatu or the rice terraces, where crowds build fast after 8am. Sunset gives you the warmer, more dramatic light most people picture, but it means sharing popular spots with other sessions. The Istimewa package can cover both in one day.
What to wear
Outfits aren't provided, so bring your own, or work with our stylist beforehand if you want help choosing. Flowing fabrics move better in photos than stiff ones, and Bali's humidity is real, so breathable materials hold up better than anything heavy. Coordinating tones read better in a gallery than identical outfits.
Weather
Bali's weather changes fast and unevenly across the island. It's normal to have rain in Denpasar and full sun in Uluwatu at the same hour. I compare the forecast against what I'm actually seeing on the ground, and for sessions booked well in advance, we'll talk through a backup plan before the date arrives.
Makeup and hair
Bali's heat and humidity are unforgiving on makeup that isn't built for it. Our makeup and hair team has spent ten years learning what holds up through a multi-hour outdoor session, not just what looks good indoors.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to pay for entrance fees or "location fees" at the shoot locations?
Yes, sometimes, and this is worth knowing upfront. A few of Bali's photo spots charge an official entrance or photo fee (this varies by location and season), and at some spots outside official parks, local residents will ask couples in formal outfits for an informal "location fee" on the spot. I know which locations these are and factor it into planning so you're not caught off guard mid-shoot.
Do you need a permit to shoot at temples or rice terraces?
Some locations require one, and it's either official (a park or terrace entrance ticket) or community-managed (a local arrangement, not government paperwork). Temples and active prayer areas are treated as sacred spaces, not backdrops.
Is there a difference in light and crowds between dry season and rainy season?
Bali's dry season runs roughly April to October, with more consistent golden hour but busier locations, especially sunrise spots. Rainy season (November to March) means quieter locations and dramatic skies, but shorter reliable shooting windows. I'll tell you what to expect for your actual travel dates when you enquire, rather than a generic "best time to visit" answer.
What happens if it's still raining at our shoot time, not just cloudy?
Bali rain is usually short and local. If it's genuinely pouring at the scheduled hour, we reschedule to the next available slot rather than shoot through it, since a rushed session in a downpour serves nobody.
Can we bring family, kids, or a pet along to part of the session?
Let us know in advance if you want anyone else in a few frames. It changes how I plan timing and positioning, and it's easier to build in from the start than to add mid-shoot.
Do we get full usage rights to the photos, including for print and social media?
Yes, delivered photos are yours to print, post, and share without asking permission each time.
